What's up with Warren Park

January 4, 2019

Warren Park has long been home to the South Darwin Rabbitohs. In 2018, we were displaced without access to rugby fields due to the redevelopment of Warren Park. We are extremely grateful to the NT Sporting Community, especially NRL NT, South Darwin Sporting League and NT Athletics who all played their part in securing our home away from home in 2018.

SDRL Clubhouse - demolished in 2018 to make way for the new home of Rugby League at Warren Park.

As a club, we certainly felt the pinch of sacrificing our home ground for the greater good and long term future of rugby in the Northern Territory.  We lost our ability to raise much needed funds at our home ground - including entry fees, home game bbqs and field signage sponsors. We lost the use of our clubhouse which provided shade for our players and a venue for committee meetings.  MASSIVE thanks to our Shade sponsors ESSL and our committee volunteers who let us use their homes and workplaces to hold our long and regular meetings.

With the bigger picture in sight and with true bunny spirit, we carried on with what we had, for the game we love. We trained at NTIS Athletics oval, we told new players to "pretend there's a dotted line there and stay inside of it", we kicked goals into the discus net, and we side-stepped the javelins thrown at us; all in the name of rugby league. That all ends in 2019 when we return to our home ground onsite to what will be a world-class rugby league stadium.

Give us some grass and a ball and we'll train!

Located at the central hub of all major sporting events in Darwin, the Marrara Sporting Complex, SDRL players will once again have access to fresh green grass, clubhouse & parking facilities and home games.  Looking at the site development pics, the wait was worth it and we are so excited to get in there! Our new home is on Field 3 with training and games to commence at Warren Park in May 2019.

2019 is shaping up to be a massive year for the club.  We've welcomed our strongest committee yet, appointed an experienced and well-respected coaching team across all age grades, and kept our registration fees the cheapest in the comp.

We will be releasing the preseason training schedule and locations at the Senior Sign On Day on 19 January 2019, Hidden Valley Tavern from 1pm - 6pm. Make sure you're there!
