SDRL AGM and wrap up of 2018

December 9, 2018

That's a wrap! 2018 was a massive year for the club and there are no signs of things slowing down... even in the off-season! Once again, Congratulations to all our teams who made finals footy. For those that didn't, we're working on ways to get you there in 2019!

The South Darwin Rugby League Football Club held their Annual General Meeting at 2018 Gold Sponsor venue, the Hidden Valley Tavern. Since coming on board, Hidden Valley Tavern have given us full access to their venue to hold meat tray raffles, club functions and have really made us feel at home. THANK YOU!

There was a great turn out showing that the club is looking to have a solid year in 2019.  We suspect a number of members who attended were keen to hear who the 2019 coaching staff would be - but that announcement won't be happening until next week. WATCH THIS SPACE.

The AGM Committee elections welcomed in the biggest SDRL Management Committee the club has ever had.  This is a reflection of the year we are expecting in 2019 and we're going to need all hands on deck!  To find out more about the 2019 Management Committee, CLICK HERE  or head to

At the AGM, the SDRL Financial Club Membership was affirmed at the same price as it has always been - $10 per year.  Memberships are valid from the date of payment and are valid until the following SDRL AGM.  Annual Financial Membership gives you "Members Only" access to view our audited accounts & minutes of meetings as well as voting rights at our Annual General Meetings, Special Resolutions and Management Committee Elections. Our Financial Memberships are valid from date of payment to the following AGM.

We are also working on a website project to give you access to a Members Only discussion board as well as Members Only specials such as Member Discounts and Discounted Club Merchandise and Event tickets.  We're hoping to have this done in the next couple of months.

Club Memberships are open now and can be purchased from our Website https://www.southdarwinrugbyleague.com/members

The new committee will be deciding what the Player Registration Fee will be in 2019 at an upcoming meeting in the next few weeks, and once that is confirmed, we will open Player Registrations online. Find and follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with all club notices and announcements.

In 2018, the Management Committee together produced a number of wins that secure the Club's future for you, its members. It's thanks to the tireless efforts and dedication of our volunteer Committee the club was able to:

  1. Secure alternate training grounds following a South Darwin Sporting League, NTRU, NRL NT and NT Government initiative to redevelop Warren Park (due for completion May 2019)

  2. Lodge a new constitution that follows the Associations Act (NT) model constitution

  3. Finalise the outstanding audited accounts from 2015 and 2016

  4. Clear all outstanding club debt and bring the club's finances back into surplus

  5. Implemented a number of government and sporting body recommendations to align the club with good governance practices including a range of club policies and procedures

  6. Implemented a new Management Committee Playbook, which includes a number of administrative, financial and operational guidelines for Committee Members to follow in the conduct of the Club's business

  7. We joined the digital world with the launch of the Club's Website and Facebook Business Page to keep information flowing and the conversations going

  8. We got shades! We secured sponsorship to acquire shades for Club matches and events to keep our players cool in the harsh territory sun

  9. Successfully ran a number of club events this year including: Design our Jersey Competition, Club Golf Day, Touch footy at the beach, weekly after game drinks and nibbles for Seniors, Juniors & Seniors Game Day awards, State of Origin functions, Juniors Presentation day, Seniors Presentations Night and supporting the Salvation Army Charity Christmas BBQ and Toy Run - all on a very tight budget!

  10. We built new relationships with a number of first time club sponsors (Hidden Valley Tavern, ESS Worldwide/Larrakia Development Corporation, ATOM Supplies, Discovery & Lost Arc Nightclubs, Halkitis Bros, Streetwise Concepts, Beta Butcher Berrimah, newsXpress Karama and Backyard Barbers Darwin) as well as strengthened our relationships with sports funding bodies, remote NT rugby league clubs, and club suppliers.  We also welcomed a number of new players to the club and to our game of rugby league.

What's in store for 2019?

Heaps! We can't leak too much just yet but we can say that we are already working our backsides off to bring you:

  • Transitioning the club to its new home ground at Warren Park

  • New training gear and equipment

  • Early pre-season training to give all teams a competitive edge

  • Skills Development clinics

  • More local and interstate Player Representative opportunities

  • More parties and club celebrations

  • Better distribution of club information to its members

As you can see... 2019 is going to be our biggest year yet! Get on board and support your club! LET'S GO RABBITOHS!!
